Topic:  An Overview of the New Healthcare Reform Initiatives - What Human Resources Professionals Need to Know

Presenter:  Jake Logan, Vice President for State Government Affairs

It's finally here:  the comprehensive landmark health care reform bill has been signed by President Obama on March 23.  The results of this new law will have far-reaching consequences for employers and ultimately Human Resources.  Now that it is reality, HR needs to know what to expect in the coming weeks and years, and what needs to be done now.

This presentation will be a very current summary and analysis of the new Federal and State laws and reviews what this will mean for Human Resources and Benefits practitioners.  The presenter will discuss the process and timeline for implementation of this legislation, and how HR can be prepared for these very significant changes to healthcare in America.  Significant time will be allocated for Q & A.

Program Learning Objectives:

  • HR Practitioners will have an overview of current federal healthcare legislation;
  • To understand the timeline of legislation that will affect U.S. employers and public agencies;
  • What HR needs to do now to prepare for changes to the healthcare process;
  • What HR and Benefits Practitioners can expect in future legislation.

Presenter:
Jake Logan, Vice President for State Government Affairs, is responsible for coordinating the public policy and political engagement activities for all businesses in the UnitedHealth Group family across the state of Arizona, Idaho and Utah, helping to enhance the company's presence and relationships with elected officials, policymakers and state and community-level office holders.

Before joining UnitedHealthcare, he had more than 12 years of government affairs experience, serving most recently as a partner with an Arizona based lobbying and consulting firm.  In that role he was named by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of the 40 under 40 and by www.politceraz.com as the 10th most influential leaders in Arizona Politics.
