Topic:  "HR the GE Way - Expectations of GE HR Leaders"    

Presenter:  David Harrington

Our discussion leader, David Harrington, will provide some important insight into the highly respected “General Electric HR Management Program” with the educational objectives of sharing his personal experiences with attendees while working at GE in various divisional assignments throughout the country.
 
Given that David has extensive firsthand experience in how GE HR management programs were developed, he will explain the HR Mindedness of the GE CEO, Jack Welsh, and how he changed GE’s strategic thinking on managing human capital. In addition, David will address the HR Core Competencies … roles of HR and roles of Managers …that are expected of GE HR Leaders and share some of the key tools and how GE HR Leaders use them with the outcome that our program attendees may take them back to their organizations.
 
David will set the fundamental operations stage by explaining GE Values! Some of the special tools used in the GE Approach to HR that David will address are: leadership development, change management, HR Metrics, 360 feedback, commitment to continuous improvement, Six Sigma and some best practices in cultural integration with acquisitions and the Balanced Scoreboard.
 
David Harrington has earned a BS in Economics and an MS in Human Resources from Iowa State University.  While at GE he had achieved his Six Sigma Black Belt in Lean Manufacturing and is a graduate of the GE HR Leadership Program.
 
David had a very successful career at General Electric where he held progressively responsible human resource management positions in union and non-union facilities and is a member of the GE Alumni Association. He is currently providing process improvement and training for the 2010 Census in Phoenix, AZ.
 
He is a member of SHRM and the West Chapter of VSHRA. David is also a member of the HR Planning Society and is a nationally recognized national and regional speaker on a broad range of HR management issues and cultural integration best practices.
