How to Join
The most effective and efficient way to apply is via our online application form. Once your application and full dues payment including the application fee is received, it will be routed to the Membership Committee and reviewed by the Board of Directors. When a decision has been made, you will receive notice of your membership status along with pertinent new member information. NOTE: Depending on the date your application is received and when it coincides with the monthly Board meetings, notification regarding the status of your application may take up to 4 weeks after payment is received. The Board meets the second Tuesday of the month.

Important Note: You must be a SHRM Member in good standing to be a VSHRA Member. You can complete a SHRM online application or print out a pdf SHRM application to submit. SHRM is continuing to offer a $15 discount to new, first-time SHRM members recruited through our chapters and state councils. The promotion code is 0118.

Membership Dues

Dues for VSHRA Membership include:
Comprehensive Rate ($250 Professional, General, $340 Associate, $60 Student) for annual membership inclusive of up to 10 Area Meetings (any combination of Central, North, and/or West) at no additional charge.
Flex Rate ($125 Professional and General, $170 Associate, $10 Student) for annual membership includes all benefits of VSHRA membership except Area Meetings will be at-VSHRA-cost and pay as you go.

Types of Membership
A detailed description of each category follows:

Professional: (members in this category have voting rights and may hold office)
- Individuals engaged in human resources management at the exempt level for more than 50% or their time, or
- Individuals who are 100% responsible for the human resource function of their organization, or
- Individuals engaged in human resources management at a non-exempt level for more than 50% of their time and a minimum of 3 years of human resources experience, or
- HRCI Certified, or
- Faculty members holding at least assistant professional rank in HR, or
- Full-time HR consultants with a minimum of 3 years HR experience, or
- Full-time attorneys who counsel or advise clients on matters relating to the HR profession
- Individuals that would have met this membership category in their last previous position prior to becoming unemployed and whom are targeting a position that will meet this designation.

General: (members in this category have voting rights but may not hold office)
- Individuals engaged in human resources management at a non-exempt level for more than 50% of their time, or
- Individuals that would have met this membership category in their last previous position prior to becoming unemployed and who are targeting a position that will meet this designation, or
- Individuals who have been awarded a Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field and whom are targeting a position in Human Resources Management,
- Individuals that have retired from a career as a Human Resources Professional or related field.

Associate Membership: (Membership in this category is limited to not more than 20% of the total association membership. Members in this category have voting rights may hold office, however there is a limit to the percent of Associate Members on the Board of Directors)
- Individuals who do not meet any of the other categories but are engaged in the profession of human resources management in an organization that serves the H.R. practitioner either by providing a product or a service. This will include such providers as temporary and permanent placement agencies, recruitment services, outplacement services, rehabilitation services, relocation services, financial planning services, or other related services. Individuals who serve these firms as an internal or external human resources practitioner role and meet all the necessary criteria for professional membership will be classified as professional members.
- Associate membership will be limited to one designated individual of the organization/company providing the product or services (as reflected in item 1. above) to the H.R. practitioner. The Board of Directors may, in its sole discretion, grant additional associate membership within a single organization based upon factors such as distinct organizational units providing different products/services within the same organization, the unique background, capabilities or contributions of the applicant.

Student Membership: (members in this category may not vote or hold office in the Chapter)
- Individuals who are enrolled either as full-time or part-time students, at freshman standing or higher;
- Individuals who are enrolled in the equivalent of at least six (6) credit hours;
- Individuals who are enrolled in a four-year or graduate institution and/or a consortium of these or a two-year community college with a matriculation agreement between it and a four-year college or university which provides for automatic acceptance of the community college students into the four-year college or university
- Individuals who are able to provide verification of a demonstrated emphasis in human resource management subjects, and
- Individuals who are able to provide verification of the college or university's human resources or related degree program.

Corporate:
- Corporate memberships will be offered for the 2010 program year for all companies who desire the ability to purchase annual VSHRA memberships for multiple employees within their company at a discounted rate. Memberships may fall within any membership category and all membership requirements must be met.
Corporate membership discounts are based on the number of memberships purchased by a single company during the year as follows:

Companies desiring to purchase memberships for three or more employees at the same time will be eligible to receive the stated discount rate listed above for all members enrolled. Following this initial enrollment, future memberships during the program year will be offered for all additional employees at the discounted rates listed above.
If a member who holds a corporate membership should terminate their employment with the company who established their membership, the membership will follow the terminated employee and no refund or prorating will occur to the company.
